Are you frustrated because you are struggling to make money and you can’t put your finger on why?
I see this a frequently with my coaching clients. Most people assume they are not doing the right types of marketing or lack technical skills when they are not making money in their business.
In fact, these are the usual culprits …
- Struggling with sales and not knowing it.
- Striving to have the courage to ask people for money.
- Not even offering their services or packages to some people because they assumed they didn’t have enough.
- Struggling with self-confidence to start even the basic processes in their marketing systems.
These folks are losing money and not sharing their unique gifts with the world because of incorrect assumptions. Do you keep working harder and trying more, but fail to make progress?
It’s a vicious cycle.
We hire coaches and mentors, because we can’t see that next step. We think we are not doing the right marketing or that we need more skills, but in fact that is not usually the case.
I was talking to someone earlier this week, Joanne, who was asking me questions about marketing a business she purchased in the past year. She was replicating some of the sales and marketing strategies of the previous owner, and was confident she could improve sales when she purchased the business, however that was not the case. She was running the business her way and losing money fast. Her business is down over 200K a year. What wasn’t she doing that she should?
The ultimate key to making money …
You need to KNOW that people are better off if they hire you than if they don’t.
What Joanne needs is to improve her selling skills. Not work harder, but smarter. She needs to embrace sales, but not from an icky place of pushy selling like she felt other people do, but discover her own authentic way to sell – from a place of giving.
She needs to know, without a shadow of a doubt in the very core of her being, that people are better off having worked with her than not. If she KNOWS that she changes lives, that she will make a positive impact in someone’s life, she would approach asking them to work with her in a profoundly different way.
The energy and passion she feels about how impactful her work is would come across in her voice, in the energy about her that no one sees but intuitively feels, and in her confidence when she quotes her price.
When you KNOW you can change someone’s life you will not only tell them about how you can help them, you will tell them over and over and over again until they hear you.
Imagine if your best friend had cancer and you accidentally discovered a cure. Visualize the passion and persistence you would communicate your discovery to her. You could save her life! If she didn’t listen, you would still not stop trying to get her attention until she heard you. Even if her friends and family distracted her, told her not to go off proven formulas and recommendations – you would persist. Because you know the truth.
So ask yourself now, what do you KNOW about yourself? Are people better having worked with you?
